In 2021, I launched Wingspro with the mission of empowering aspiring flight attendants to reach their dreams. However, as time has passed, this blog has evolved into a valuable resource for flight attendant information and travel inspiration for all those who share the same passion and embrace the same lifestyle.

I hope my story inspires you to chase your dreams and become the best version of yourself!

Let’s dive into my journey and how I overcame self-doubt & life crisis to fulfill my lifelong dream of becoming a flight attendant and traveling the world.

A Wonderful Journey of Ups & Downs

As an aspiring flight attendant, I faced numerous challenges in the early stages. Overcoming self-doubt became a crucial part of my journey towards realizing my dreams.

Like most people, I experienced a couple of rejections and heartbreaks along the way before finally achieving a significant milestone – receiving my first set of Wings from a major airline in the Philippines.

It was a journey filled with ups and downs, but the sense of accomplishment I felt when those wings were finally pinned to my uniform was indescribable. It served as a reminder of the hard work, determination, and resilience it took to reach that point in my aviation career.

Through a combination of continuous learning, unwavering discipline, and a touch of serendipity, I have ultimately arrived at my desired destination today.

My career as a flight attendant has bestowed upon me unimaginable blessings, but above all, it has granted me the privilege of visiting 80 countries to this date.

To express my gratitude to the world, I have established this blog with the following objectives:

  • TO INSPIRE: I aim to share my recent and ongoing experiences as a flight attendant, offering insights into my unique journey in the aviation industry.

  • TO PROVIDE GUIDANCE: Offer valuable resources, such as printables, guides, and checklists, to aspiring and current flight attendants. Explore flight attendant resources to enhance your knowledge and skills wherever you are in your journey.

  • LIVE THE DREAM: Discover travel tips, find inspiration, and learn how to experience the flight attendant lifestyle just as I did!

2009: Unsuccessful Flight Attendant Interviews

2008 - 2009: I was working as a Physical Therapist in The Philippines

I was working in the fast-paced and demanding healthcare industry, surrounded by patients and medical professionals, when suddenly, I found myself contemplating a career change. The endless hours and financial strain back in the Philippines had taken a toll on me, leading to deep introspection and an overwhelming sense of early-life crisis.

I yearned for a fresh start and a new path that would bring both financial stability and personal fulfillment.

My wanderlust is urging me to explore new horizons and embark on exciting adventures!

One day, I stumbled upon Gwyneth Paltrow’s film “A View From The Top”, where she portrays the role of a flight attendant. After watching it, I had a realization that I wanted to pursue a career as a flight attendant. The film ignited my desire to explore the world, fulfilling the dreams I had always cherished.

Excitedly, I embarked on a mission to apply to every airline in the Philippines that was hiring flight attendants at that time.

I honestly thought it would be easy since I have a bachelor’s degree in healthcare. Still, I experienced rejection after rejection. Despite my persistence, I received the same response from every airline – “We are sorry to inform you that we have decided not to proceed with your application at this time.” It was a cold and impersonal rejection, but it did not stop me from pursuing my dreams.

Despite feeling defeated and discouraged, I persevered and remained determined not to surrender.

2010: A Pivotal Moment

Despite facing failure in my interviews, I am unwavering in my determination to pursue my dreams, no matter the obstacles.

In fact, it was precisely this unwavering determination that led me to succeed!

I firmly believe that every problem has a solution, which is why I crafted a detailed action plan to fulfill my ambition of becoming a flight attendant.

My Strategy for Becoming a Flight Attendant

Step 1: Recognizing and Embracing my Weaknesses.

During my previous interviews, I felt overly confident, unaware that I had neglected to do my homework. As a consequence, I entered the interview room clueless about the airline’s company values and interview process. It was a humbling experience that taught me the significance of thorough preparation and research before embarking on any important endeavor.

This encounter emphasized the importance of being well-prepared and conducting comprehensive research before an interview.

On the other hand, I also lacked the confidence to stand out in a group, which is an integral part of the flight attendant interview process. Being able to confidently express myself and showcase my unique qualities, such as excellent communication skills and a friendly demeanor, is crucial in making a lasting impression on the interviewers.

By exuding confidence and demonstrating my ability to work well with others, I can prove that I am well-suited for the demands of the role and increase my chances of success in the interview.

After I acknowledged and embraced my weaknesses, I dedicated myself wholeheartedly to self-improvement, I moved on to the next phase of my journey.

These are the reasons why I believe airlines didn’t offer me a flight attendant job:

  • Lack of confidence to stand out in a group interview
  • I didn’t study the airline’s company values, mission, and vision.
  • I lack interview skills.
  • I didn’t know how airlines conduct their interviews.
  • Inappropriate interview attire.
  • Unaware of the airline’s grooming standard.

Step 2: Cultivate the Proper Mindset

If it weren’t for my determined and resilient mindset, I would have easily given up. I dedicate time and effort to self-improvement, including reading motivational books to cultivate the right attitude.

I also learned the power of positive thinking and visualization, which helped me believe in myself more. By having a growth mindset and constantly seeking ways to improve, I was able to turn my weaknesses into strengths and become a more successful candidate for the flight attendant role.

I have discovered several effective methods to cultivate a resilient mindset:

A. By immersing yourself in motivational books

Reading motivational books inspired me to keep striving towards my goals. It helped me see setbacks as opportunities for growth and encouraged me to persist despite rejection.

B. By creating a vision board and keeping a gratitude journal

Aside from John Maxwell’s insightful leadership books, The Secret by Rhonda Byrnes has been an instrumental resource in enhancing my mindset and transforming my perspective. It has provided me with valuable knowledge and techniques to unlock my full potential and manifest positive changes in my life.

Through those books, I discovered the incredible power of turning my thoughts into reality. Inspired by this revelation, I created a vision board, a tangible reminder of my dreams and aspirations.

Below is the vision board I created over a decade ago, capturing my precise aspirations and dreams.

I made This Vision Board After Graduating From College

To this day, I still get goosebumps whenever I lay my eyes on my old Vision Board. It’s a tangible reminder of the journey I embarked on as a flight attendant, fulfilling my lifelong dream of exploring the breathtaking wonders of the World.

Apart from crafting a vision board, I also kept a gratitude journal. Each day, I would take a moment to reflect and jot down the things I felt grateful for. This practice allowed me to cultivate an attitude of appreciation and find joy in even the smallest of moments.

C. Boost your motivation by listening to inspiring audio content.

In addition to reading motivational books and creating a vision board, another powerful way to stay motivated is by listening to inspiring audio content. Whether it’s podcasts, audiobooks, or motivational speeches, there are countless resources available that can provide a much-needed boost of inspiration and motivation.

Back in the day, I used to have so much fun running around in parks. To keep myself motivated and inspired, I would listen to motivational audio while running. This practice not only helped me maintain a healthy mind and body but also fueled my determination to keep pushing forward.

Step 3: Collect Information From Reliable Resources

I diligently gathered an extensive collection of free resources from the vast expanse of the World Wide Web. With unwavering determination, I made it a point to stay constantly updated with the latest hiring opportunities in the airline industry, ensuring that I was always aware of the current openings. Not stopping there, I meticulously crafted personalized mission and vision statements for each airline I applied to, showcasing my dedication and alignment with their core values.

I meticulously prepared for flight attendant interviews by conducting extensive research and honing my interview skills. I dedicated time to practicing natural responses to flight attendant interview questions.

Additionally, I invested effort into perfecting my presentation to airline recruiters, focusing on attire selection for a polished and professional appearance during the interview process.

Step 4: Engaged in workshops on personal development and enhancing one's personality.

Merely having a strong mindset is insufficient if you fail to take action to better yourself. To address my weakness in public speaking, I actively participated in a Hosting and Emceeing workshop.

During the workshop, I challenged myself to think quickly and deliver impactful punch lines that would captivate my audience. Though it may sound intense, this experience significantly boosted my confidence in speaking before a crowd.

Consequently, I overcame my fear of group interviews and developed a newfound assurance in engaging with individuals I had never met before.

In 2010, I embarked on my journey as a flight attendant when one of the top airlines in the Philippines granted me the opportunity to start my career in the skies.

Just like everyone else, I successfully navigated their thorough and fair hiring process, ensuring that I met all the necessary requirements and qualifications.

During that period, I made my way to their office located in Pasay City, Manila. Upon arrival, I promptly submitted my resume to the Human Resources Department, and without delay, a recruiter conducted an interview with me on the very same day.

The interview questions were precise and aimed at gaining a deeper understanding of who I am and what I can offer the airline. Thanks to my meticulous preparation, a few weeks after my initial interview, I received a delightful message extending congratulations and an invitation to participate in a panel and group interview.

I successfully cleared the panel interview and proceeded with the company’s medical screening. During the screening, they conducted various assessments including measuring my height and performing medical procedures such as a chest x-ray and ECG.

Upon successfully completing my medical screening, I embarked on my Initial Flight Attendant Training in February 2010. It proved to be one of the most demanding and transformative experiences of my life.

The training encompassed a multitude of challenges, including rigorous memorization, dynamic demonstrations, immersive role-playing, and intensive drills.

This comprehensive training regimen provided me with a profound understanding of the flight attendant profession. I’ve come to realize that it goes beyond just glamour and leisurely travel.

Rather, it is a calling that carries the weight of ensuring the safety of passengers in crucial circumstances.

2011: A 5-Star Recruitment Experience

Qatar Airways: Open Day

QATAR AIRWAYS organized an Open Day recruitment event at Radisson Blu–Mactan, in Cebu, Philippines.

What happened during that day is still fresh in my memory until today.

I handed over my CV to the recruiter and during my turn, she asked me one particular question:

“Are you a nurse?”

I wasn’t a nurse, but I responded, “No, ma’am, I am a Physical Therapist, and I’m also currently working as a flight attendant.”

Then she said, “Thank you.”

And that was it.

It was a brief and memorable moment for me. Even though the recruiter did not pose any additional queries, my response was heartfelt and authentic.

After the event, I decided to grab a lunch at a nearby mall. While enjoying my meal, a recruiter from the airline’s affiliated agency approached me unexpectedly. It was a pleasant surprise that she remembered me from my previous application with a different airline, as she had conducted my interview back then.

To my excitement, she informed me that my name had been shortlisted for the upcoming Assessment Day event, scheduled for the next day!

Qatar Airways: Assessment Day

The day of the assessment arrived, and for the first time, a wave of anxiety washed over me. The room was filled with a diverse mix of individuals, both experienced and inexperienced in flying, each exuding their unique beauty.

Nevertheless, I committed to remaining true to myself, recognizing that this was the sole means of distinguishing myself from the masses. By embracing my authentic self, I aimed to radiate a unique and genuine presence.

I completed all stages of the interview process. From what I recall, we underwent a reach test, and an English written assessment, and engaged in two rounds of group activities. During the group activities, the recruiter presented us with various scenarios for discussion among ourselves.

My Final Interview (Face-to-face)

During my final interview, a typhoon hit Cebu, causing significant disruptions. Despite facing flooded streets and arriving late to the hotel, my determination propelled me forward. I hopped onto a truck, braving the challenging conditions to reach my destination.

When I finally arrived, I discovered that I was the last candidate to be interviewed by the recruiter. From that moment onward, all I can recall is engaging in a meaningful and enjoyable conversation with them.

The strategies I acquired have been deeply ingrained in me and proved invaluable throughout the entire application process.

2020: A New Turning Point

I decided to immigrate to the United States, leaving behind the airline that held a special place in my heart. I knew that it would be a challenging transition, but my determination to build a new life pushed me forward.

I experimented with working in a hospital environment, giving it a fair chance. However, it didn’t satisfy me the way flying did. I longed for the excitement and the lifestyle that had been a significant part of my life for more than a decade.

Determined to get back to my true passion, I used the same strategy that allowed me to spread my wings once again.

I am currently a flight attendant for a Major airline based in the United States and still enjoying the benefits of the flight attendant lifestyle. Moreover, I have the freedom to explore my hidden talents, such as digital marketing, blogging, writing, and teaching.

Every day, I have the privilege of pursuing the things I love most, whether it’s indulging in this digital creative journey, exploring new destinations, or simply taking flight.
